CANE is astonished that this is not the case.

In spite of the increase in the cost of gas and oil, the case just does not stack up. I will therefore, along with other concerned individuals, do all in my power that is legal and honest to oppose any building of new nukes in our area and in the UK.

A Crtical Phase

We are now entering a critical phase in the move to develop new nuclear power stations in the UK. British Energy is about to be purchased by the French nationalised company, EdF subject to regulatory and shareholder approval by the early part of next year. BE is consulting locally about the Environmental Impact of thewir new build program. The consultation on the proposed sites for new nuclear power stations is over and we are expecting the results to be published soon. We hope that the government is better at incorporating the comments that they were with the Energy White Paper.

The National Policy Statement on Nuclear Power is about to be drafted. This is in spite of the evidence that nuclear power is not cheap, safe or non-polluting! The latest evidence shows that nuclear energy costs around 14 cents per megawatt, compared with 7 cents for wind. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Write to your MP and let us know your opinion.

Please see the CANE web site (www.suffolkcane.org.uk) for more details.

CANE "Green Paper"

CANE are considering producing a "Green Paper" to counter some of the more obvious pro-nuclear information circulated by the nuclear industry.
