CANE are considering producing a "Green Paper" to counter some of the more obvious pro-nuclear information circulated by the nuclear industry. We'd appreciate any ideas or any of the most important issues you wish us to address.

Hi I'm from Stop Hinkley, campaigning against Hinkley Point in Somerset. I like your website and think it's great your campaign has started up. I've known Charles Barnett from your sister group, the Shut Down Sizewell Campaign for many years. An issue I find important is that of radiation and health. Chernobyl spewed out its toxins over much of Europe with dire consequences in terms of extra cancers for many people, especially in neighbouring Belarus wher my wife comes from. But daily non-accidental discharges seem to have an impact on populations living near nuclear power stations. Stop Hinkley has commissioned several studies which have found breast cancer and leukaemia excesses in Burnham-on-Sea near Hinkley and Chepstow near Oldbury nuclear power station in Gloucershire. Both towns are about five miles from the respective reactors. The sea-borne discharges are authorised as the Inernational Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) deems the levels to be safe. But work done by Dr Chris Busby challenges this complacency. It seems that the radioactive particles can travel several miles and may be inhaled or ingested, causing damage lodged within the body's soft tissue. You may wish to put up a link to a website that publishes his work: www.llrc.org and perhaps one to our group's website: www.stophinkley.org.
Best wishes and good luck. Jim Duffy Coordinator Stop Hinkley
